Get closer to Fort Boyard along the Charente Maritime coast, halfway between île d’Aix and île d’Oléron. Unfortunately you can’t go inside the fort, but you can take a tour around it on a shuttle boat, which sails past idly at a close range.

With impressive dimensions, the 3 storey fort measures 68 metres in length, 31m in width, and 20m in height. Fort Boyard was designed in the 18th century to protect île d’Aix harbour and the Royal Arsenal of Rochefort-sur-Mer.
